Leicester Riverside Festival approached the University seeking a refreshed visual identity, as the event currently lacked a cohesive, established brand. The brief focused on developing an evolving logo system that could adapt annually, bringing renewed energy to future festival iterations over a three-year period. A key requirement was for the identity to reflect people and celebrate the festival’s connection to the diverse cultures across Leicestershire. Accessibility and inclusivity were also central considerations throughout the project.

The Brand

Each year features four logo variants, ensuring flexibility across applications while maintaining a consistent visual system. Two versions are presented in blue on white, with the remaining two reversed as white on blue, directly referencing traditional letterpress ink colours used in its creation.

The Area Identities

Each area is given a distinct visual identity through the use of colour and texture derived from the letterpress process. These tonal variations are carried through into the wider brand system and applied across the applications shown in the Brand in Action section below.
